Basics
The following is a memory retention verses time graph. The blue part of the graph shows how much someone who does not review will remember over time, and the striped upper half shows memory for someone who does review.

From the graph you can see that even after being presented information you are still “processing” that information up to about 10 minutes after you receive it. Ideally you would review material from class 10 minutes after class, then 24 hours later, the next week, then a month later, and so on. Each review needs to be only a few minutes.
