When it comes to remembering a short list, one of the easiest ways is to use imagery and connect that imagery to an item on the list. When you use strong visuals to correlate with words you need to remember, you can use them in a story.
Example
Let’s say you need to remember the following list of counties in northern Arizona: Mohave, Coconino, Yavapai, Navajo, and Apache.
Create an image to go with "Mohave". You might choose a "Mohawk" haircut. Then link that image to the next one on the list, "Coconino".
Here is an example using imagery to link items in a list together.
- A man with a MOHAwk (Mohave) put some COCO in his pocket. (Coconino)
- He needed the COCO to make his JAVA chip PIE. (Yavapai)
- After making a JAVA chip PIE he went to the NAVy yard.(Navajo)
- At the NAVy yard he accidentally fell on A PACH of wet paint. (Apache)
There does not necessarily need to be a plot. What is important is a link between images.
